Karijini National Park Handrail Pool |
Notes: The brochure states that this walk is for very experienced bushwalkers. Our kids and grandkids were going so we thought it would be OK to go as well. We parked at the end of the road and walked to the Junction Pool and Oxer Lookout to take in the views before heading back up the road to the Weano Gorge track. A rough but reasonable track led you to the gorge floor. At the bottom we turned right for the Handrail Pool. Initially it was easy going but then the walls started closing in and the creek became an obstacle to be overcome. The walls got closer together and things really did need a bit of consideration on how to go forward. Then as the pool came into view it became the class 5 walk it was said to be. A strong handrail was in place to allow you to hang on and get you to the few small brick toe holds that descended to the pool below. It is a magnificent place and we took time to sit and take it all in. Going back out it was a matter of taking turns with those coming down alternating with those going up. It did not seem as bad going back up out of the pool area, I always prefer going up to going down on any walk. We were soon back on an open track and headed back to our car. |
