Karijini National Park Hamersley Gorge |
Notes: It was a long way to drive to the Hamersley gorge from our camp at the Karijini Eco Retreat. Fortunately it was either on bitumen or Mine Roads which are a cut above the average dirt roads, even so there were a few bumpy stretches. It was quite warm when we finally arrived at the car park of the Hamersley Gorge. I chose to go up a small hill nearby to hopefully get a wider perspective of the gorge and surrounds. The track was slippery because of the gravel nature of the area and it was reasonably steep as well, but the views were outstanding. Back at the car park we went out to the proper lookout for the gorge and then headed down the track to the gorge floor. Lots of people were swimming or sliding down the water wet rock slope of the creek that flows into the gorge. After soaking up the atmosphere we slowly walked back up to the car park and headed home. Along the way we stopped a few times to take wildflower photos and mountain scenery. |
