El Questro:
El Questro Gorge Walk
and the start of the Gibb River Raod

Back

Notes:

Today we were leaving El Questro Station and heading off down the Gibb River Road but we had one more walk we thought would be good to do before we left and that was the El Questro Gorge Walk to the boulder at the halfway point.  We packed and hitched up our caravan and headed out to the start of the walk but not before dropping off the caravan as there was a long water crossing near the carpark and walk start.  The walk is generally rather rocky overall. The start of the walk is along a dry creek bed before you enter the palm tree area where there are a few sections of wooden walkway.  The water level is very low at this time of year which makes criss-crossing the creek bed quite easy as you follow the track further into the narrowing gorge.  We walked to the halfway point where there is a nice waterhole for a cool dip.  The way ahead is blocked by a huge boulder which must be tackled if you are to go further along the track.  This was far enough for us and we returned back along the track to our car.  Picking up our caravan we headed out of the station and onto the Gibb River Road and turned west crossing the Pentecost River heading for Ellenbrae Station.
