Alum Mountain - Lookout Walk
Bulahdelah, NSW

BACK

Notes:
We where orchid hunting as usual, but seeing things were not going as well as usual we took time out to go for a walk and see the sights.  We started at the picnic ground which was our usual start for our orchid trek but with the new freeway running close by, our walk had been demolished.  The picnic ground is much improved and we read the interperative signs before heading across the new bridge to start our walk to the lookout - something we had not realised was there or had ever envisaged doing.  So we started to climb the mountain and after a few minutes saw a sign saying -"Top Carpark 20 Minutes".  This had us concerned as could we drive to the carpark and start our walk from there?  Well we continued and realised that no you couldn't drive anywhere on the mountain.  Continuing further up the track we finally got to the carpark and from here the track was mostly "level".  The views of the town below came and went  and the forest around us was quite bueatiful as well.  Some interest along the way was the old boiler and the mining areas.
