Day - 8   MONTEREY  Day-2
19 - June - 2015
Globus:
Today's highlights include a journey along scenic 17-MILE DRIVE. Enjoy views of the famous Lone Cyprus, Pebble Beach Golf Course, and million-dollar homes. Stop in the seaside town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, a haven for writers, artists, and celebrities. Spend time browsing the shops or perhaps take a stroll on the beach. Then, return to Monterey and visit Cannery Row, immortalised by John Steinbeck in his novel of the same name. Your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner tonight at the world-famous MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM. Enjoy incredible views of the bay while you and your new friends reminisce about your journey. Today seemed like an easy day, just winding down to the finish of the tour.  But not so, it was jammed packed with things to do.  Somehow we got to the start of the 17 mile drive, a private roadway and so the bus had to pay a entrance fee to use it.  Our first stop was at Bird Rock where we saw the Cormorant and Sea Lion Colony on a island just off shore.  I was most intrigued by the way some tourists went to great lengths to pose for a picture - very inventive.  We went on to see another colony of sea lions and then to the Lone Cypress pine - the so called ghost tree. Along the route we also past many grand and expensive mansions. We stopped at Carmel-by-the-Sea for an opportunity to explore.  We walked down to the beautiful beach and then back up the hill.  We were then whisked off to the Monterey Canning precinct, where we had lunch, then a tour of the Monterey Aquarium and  some free time to see the aquarium at our leisure.  We also had an enjoyable meal on Globus here as well.

Map:  MONTEREY - 15 Miles, 35 Min, 24 km

Todays map is somewhat fanciful - all the main stops are there but how we got there is uncertain.
