Day - 13       Day-2
08-June-2015
Globus:
This morning, you may wish to join our optional 90 min flight over Monument Valley or 20-30 min Tower Butte Helicopter Tour for a bird's-eye view of the red sandstone monoliths, made famous by many Western movies and TV shows. Walk along rim or on one of the trails. Afterward, cross the Painted Desert with its ever-changing colour scheme, and catch your first glimpse of the world-famous GRAND CANYON, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Afternoon arrival allows plenty of free time to explore the canyon rim on your own. Be sure to take an evening stroll to savour the magnificent sunset. (B,D) SPECIAL FEATURE: Your hotel tonight is located near the rim of the Grand Canyon, a rare opportunity for great views and a significant extra by travelling with Globus.
We  chose to go on the Antelope Canyon Tour, lucky, as the Monument Valley Tour was cancelled at the last minute.  We drove to Page and took our places on the inward facing benches of a large 4WD truck and then we headed out to the canyon entrance.  The opening was a small dark slot in the canyon wall, but within a few meters of the entrance, the beauty and colour of the canyon walls was apparent.  Amazing colours and this was early in the day. Nearer midday the price goes up because the sun is directly above and gives the best colour to the walls.

We walked slowly, our enthusiastic Indian guide talked about the history of the area and importantly where to take the best shots.  At the other end of the canyon we had individual photos taken to remind us of our visit and we were then allowed to walk back at our own pace to our waiting 4WD drive.  On the bus again and off to Cameron's Trading Post for lunch in their magnificent dining area.  The meals were huge.   The next stop was at the start of the main area of the Grand Canyon at the Desert View Watch Tower.  A very impressive place to first view the canyon.  We took lots of photos here before we once again boarded our bus and headed for our hotel, which was within 10 metres of the rim walk.  We chose an early dinner and headed out to catch the sunset over the canyon.  The free bus took out to the Pima Lookout where we wandered about taking photos until dark.  We returned via the free bus to the hotel.
