Day - 6       Day-2
01-June-2015
Globus:
This morning, visit the BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTER OF THE WEST, a fine museum of historic weapons and Western art. Then, continue through Shoshone National Forest to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, established in 1872 as the world's first national park, where wild animals roam freely in vast meadows and forests. Enjoy several photo stops on the way to your hotel, including world-famous Old Faithful Geyser. (B,D) Note: The routing and areas visited within Yellowstone are subject to favourable weather and/or road conditions. When conditions are unfavourable, the routing may be adjusted accordingly. SPECIAL FEATURE: Enjoy a 2-night stay inside Yellowstone National Park. Each lodge has its own unique setting and atmosphere. Lodges featured are the Old Faithful Inn, Lake Yellowstone Hotel and the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. Wildflowers and orchids at Dunraven Road and in the Lake area.
We  took a quick 3 minute drive to the Buffalo Bill center.  As part of the usual security screen we were told that we could not bring in our water bottles.  Interestingly, water was freely obtainable inside!  The museum was had great exhibits on, of course, Buffalo Bill, which seemed to make him better than life.  They also had a major historical gun exhibition as well, which did little for me.  We travelled on past the famous Pahaska Tepee, Buffalo Bill's spectacular historic lodge, built 1904 near the Yellowstone park entrance on onto the Lake Yellowstone hotel for lunch.  On the way to the hotel we passed our first real bison, close enough to walk to - a huge beast!  Then as we travelled on to our destination we spotted more bison just ahead crossing the road with no respect for traffic. Yes, everyone stopped, watched and photographed them. The bison soon became a common sight and the bus did not stop for us to photograph them.  Our first real stop,  the Upper Falls of the Yellowstone  River was next.  These were dramatic but too far away.  Next was our overnight spot at Mammoth Hot Springs.  After freshening up we headed out for a walk around the Mammoth Hot Springs.  Unlike New Zealand, no sulphur smell was detected.  We walked quite a while only to realize that it was getting very overcast and just at our furthest distance from the hotel we had to start our rush back to beat the rain.  Well of course we did no beat it and luckily we had umbrellas.  Back in town we found that the only restaurant closed at 7pm so we had a snack at the only cafe, which closed it doors soon after we left.
