Day - 5       Day-2
31-May-2015
Globus:
Journey this morning into southern Montana to visit LITTLE BIG HORN BATTLEFIELD, the site commemorating one of America's most famous battles. Tour the battlegrounds where Custer was defeated by approximately 7,000 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors, and visit the museum. Afterward, continue your scenic drive through the Bighorn Mountains, stopping at Shell Falls en route to Cody, with time for an optional float trip on the Shoshone River.   (B)
We  awoke to a bright sunny morning and were able to fit in a short walk before leaving for the days activities.  Our first stop was the Little Bighorn Battlefield.  Here we enjoyed an hour talk explaining the history of Indian wars and the battle itself, before we wandered off into the battleground.  Markers note where various participants fell.  The striking Indian memorial was interesting as we headed back to move on.  The Bear Lodge Resort was the next stop and after a snack lunch we headed across the highway and into the patchy snow covered forest.  Couldn't help but make snowballs.  There were interesting footprints and scats in the area as well.  Further on we stopped at the remarkable Shell Falls, a dramatic canyon area with a series of falls and rapids.  We then continued on to Cody.  Here Mischa enjoyed a Shoshone rapids water rafting trip and yes got quite wet in the process, as expected.
