Exmouth: A drive on the Shothole Canyon Road |

Notes: The tourist pamphlets state this is a great drive for 4wd and 2wd vehicles and it is. Not a real 4wd road, just a bumpy dirt road in fact, at least in the dry season. You start at the intersection of the Minilya-Exmouth Rd and Shothole Canyon Road. The track heads inland and follows the valley floor, crossing over a dry creek bed a couple of times before you reach the end and the car park for the look-out. The look-out is a very short but somewhat steep walk to the top of a nearby rise where you get good views of the valley you drove through and also other valleys. It is named after the shotholes left by explosive charges set off during the exploration for oil in the 1950s. |
